Discovering Dad - Friday Round-up, Mar 28, 08

It seems like yesterday that I was writing last week's Friday Round-up. Time always goes by too quickly when something good is happening in life. This week was filled with lots of good stuff.
My teenage daughter Chani was here. She moved to Arizona with her mother last year, so our visitation schedule has been adjusted to longer stays but further apart. I really miss having her here on a consistent basis, and I know that Lori and Ty feel the same way.
Every time Chani walks into the room, Ty's face lights up, and he says, "HI SISSY!"
We're making the best of things though, and I'm trying to stay positive. In addition to spending time with her brother this week, Chani and I were able to get a lot of dedicated Daddy-Daughter time. Lori was disappointed that she couldn't be with us more, but she had a really busy week at work and spent two days out of town.
Chani goes back to Arizona tomorrow. She doesn't come back until June, which totally sucks! She will be here for 5 weeks in the summer though. Baby Caitlin will also be making her arrival around the same time Chani gets here. I'm looking forward to having the whole family together. Chani is an excellent big sister.
One of Chani's favorite places to go while she's here has always been Harper's Ferry, WV. It's just up the river from where we live in Maryland, so I took her and Ty there today. We walked around the historic sites, skipped rocks on the Shenandoah River and, then, got some soft serve at a local shop before heading back home. It was a lot of fun.
I wish she didn't have to leave tomorrow. Did I say that I'm really going to miss her? It bears repeating.
At work, nothing new happened this week. One of the huge benefits of working from home and at a start-up is that I have an extremely flexible schedule. This is what I need to make things work, however we are starting to discuss potential changes after the next baby comes. A nanny may be in the near future.
I think it's smart to evaluate your life with every major change that happens, just to make sure things are on track for everyone involved. I'd love to stay on the path that we're headed, but it is going to require work or my own projects getting to another level.
Since Chani was here this week, I only went to one meeting at night, which is extremely difficult to do when you're on City Council. There are always meetings at City Hall, or one of the local organizations to which I am the liaison or a member.
I was lucky there weren't many meetings scheduled this week; however, I've been to so many since taking office that I feel like I've earned up a few credits. Plus, nothing is more important than family.
Finally, with regard to Discovering Dad, I was extremely happy to see the site included in the new Dads.Alltop.com news aggregator for "top" sites. Congratulations again to all of the dad sites that are included! With any luck, Guy Kawasaki and the team at Nononina will find a way to make Alltop a destination of choice for the masses of Internet surfers who do not use customized feedreaders. Then, they can "discover" dads like us!
I also launched the first article in a new series called Spotlight On Dads this week. The first dad featured was James Austin from Luke, I Am Your Father. This weekly series will continue every Saturday, so if you want to nominate a dad let me know in the comments. The series goes to Camelot next, so be sure to check back tomorrow.
Some of you may have noticed that I finally got around to creating some key pages for the site, including About, History, Contact and Links pages. I hope that people find them useful.
Time went by too quickly this week, as it often does when good things are happening in life. Bad things always tend to drag out endlessly, and the stuff you want to savor melts away at the slightest touch.
I'm thankful for having Chani here this week, as well as all of the other great things happening with family, work and Discovering Dad.
Feel free to share how your week went in the comments section. Your feedback keeps me motivated and working hard.
