Dads Tip of the Week - Maximize Time with Alltop

Time is a valuable thing to busy dads. Work, eat, sleep and family activities - when do we find time to do something for ourselves, like read the newspaper or flip through a magazine? Staying informed about what's happening in the world is hard to do with so many things competing for our time. A new site Alltop.com can help solve this problem.

Alltop is the latest venture from Guy Kawasaki, founder of Truemors and former Apple evangelist. Guy describes Alltop as an online "magazine rack," where dozens of feeds from the top news or blog sites are grouped together in a simple way for you. Rather than surfing through dozens of sites or being limited to just one due to time, you can quickly find interesting information from a variety of sources at Alltop.

Alltop groups information into 8 major categories, then breaks it down into specific topics of interest, like politics, sports, music, religion and moms. Topic sections include the most recent five posts from the top sites, and you can see the first paragraph of each post by hovering over the link. This helps me save time because it gives enough information to let me know whether or not I want to click through and read an entire article or not.

I asked Guy why there wasn't a topic for DADS, and he sent me an e-mail saying, "I’m compiling a Dads.alltop.com soon!" I think that would be really cool!

Alltop is one of those sites that helps to maximize limited time. For me, I like to stay on top of what is happening in the news, social media and blogosphere, but I don't have time to surf through all of the sites that interest me every day and a feedreader with this many links would simply overwhelm me.

I usually have short segments of time available to read or have a cup of coffee, and I enjoy scanning through Alltop to get a sense of what's happening in the world. I read a few posts, and then I come back to it later. I also like that the site is refreshed every 10 minutes, so whenever I do get time the information is always current.

If you want to learn more about Alltop, click here. They are very good about taking suggestions, and I've been impressed with their responsiveness.

Time is essential to busy dads, so we have to find ways to maximize it. Take a look at Alltop, and let me know how it works for you. Leave a comment with your impressions, or if you have any other suggestions for ways to maximize time.

Good find! And it is also good to see that they are considering a "Dads" section. I'll keep my eyes open for that. :D
